Thursday 23rd September 7.30-10pm (The Gallery, first floor BG Library). Doors open 7.15pm
THE CORRESPONDENTS and HOOK AND THE TWIN play a charity gig in aid of Core Arts (charity no: 1043588) Tickets: £6 in advance from We Got Tickets or £7 on the door. Only 200 available.
HOOK AND THE TWIN (8pm) the Kraut-leaning, synth-rock duo are going places: their first release RACE FOR THE BONE was crowned Drowned in Sound’s Single of the Week. And B-side THEY’LL GET YOUR HEAD was “Track of the week” on BBC Radio One’s tastemaker DJ Zane Lowe’s show. Their legion of fans include DJs Rob da Bank and John Kennedy and Steve Lamacq. In 2009 they produced a live soundtrack to Fritz Lang’s Metropolis in front of a sell-out crowd at Bristol’s Arnolfini gallery.
THE CORRESPONDENTS (9pm)
Fresh (sic) from Bestival, Mr Bruce and Mr Chuckles return to London to serve up their inimitable fusion of “1930s flapper hip hop”. Resuscitating sampled relics with squelchy synths over dusty drum loops they’ve depictied the trials and errors of Love, Lust and Loss over foot-tapping toe curling “get your brogues on” dance floor Electro Swing.
The Correspondents have shared stages with the likes of Lily Allen, VV Brown, Bat For Lashes, Lazy Habits, Daedalus, Bassment Jaxx, Rob Da Bank, Rusko, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Cuban Brothers, Brass Roots, Jocelyn Brown, Dub Pistols etc. You might have seen them at Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Bestival, Camp Bestival, Shambala Festival, Lovebox Weekender, The Big Chill Festival, Camden Crawl, Bethnal Green Working Man’s Club.
